The Seven launch details

Cover by Jaime Jones

THE SEVEN is launching on the 20th April at Waterstones Piccadilly at 7pm. The event is ticketed and if you book in advance then you make me feel 100% less worried that nobody will come (it also helps the store to know numbers in advance).

The event is going to be chaired by my wonderful agent, Juliet Mushens. There'll be a Q&A, signing, and then leisurely drinks and chat afterwards.

Tickets cost £8 (£6 to Waterstones card holders) and the price of the ticket is redeemable against the cost of the book. Tickets also get you:

  • A drink
  • An edible cupcake version of the book
  • A doodle in your normal copy of the book*
  • A hug from me*

You can book tickets in store, through the website or by calling: 02078512400

Hope to see you there!

It's 2017: Books! Dates! Award Eligibility! Cake!

Okay, I admit it. I pretty much added cake to the title because I wanted you to read the post. But fear not! There will be cake of some sort at the launch event for THE SEVEN, which I will post about in due course.

Award Eligibility

This is nice and simple. Bookwise, The Malice is my only eligible work, and short storywise (or novellawise, if we're being precise) it's The Hammer and the Goat. Job done!

Oh, and the Tea and Jeopardy Podcast is still eligible for podcasty type awards (like the Best Fancast Hugo).

Books coming out in 2017

The Vagrant and The City (Novelette, ebook): 23rd Feb
This is set between books 2 and 3 of The Vagrant trilogy. It isn't required reading as such* but it forms a bridge between the two books and gives you an extra hit of the Vagrant, for those of you who want to know what he does next.

The Malice (UK Paperback): 9th March
A smaller, softer, perfectly formed version of The Malice.

The Malice (US paperback release): 7th March

The Seven (UK Hardback): 20th April
The third and final book of the trilogy! There will be some kind of launch in London hopefully involving cake, wine, doodles, hugs** and no loud music!

*But I'd really like it if you did read it.

The Vagrant paperback is out today and to celebrate I've got a guest post over at the Harper Voyager blog!

Thanks to those of you who have been sharing pictures of it out in the wild. I will never ever, ever get bored of seeing it on display tables.

If you're based in the US, I'm afraid it doesn't hit bookstores there until the 10th May but it is coming, I promise!

If you're keen to get stuck in, there's a sample of the book on the Harper Voyager blog right now!

For those of you who are waiting for the sequel, THE MALICE will be coming out in hardback on the 19th May and we should be seeing a cover reveal very, very soon. SPOILER: Jaime Jones has produced another work of beauty and I can't wait for you to see it!

And for those of you who are super keen,   at the time of writing this I'm about two thirds of the way through drafting THE SEVEN (which will be coming out in 2017) and I'll have more news about some short stories set between the books in the not too distant future.

Exciting times!

Harper Voyager acquire a third Vagrant book but wait, there's more…

Good News Part 1

I come with glad tidings! Harper Voyager have just acquired the third book in The Vagrant trilogy. It’ll be called The Seven, and will follow on from The Malice which comes out next year.*

Here’s a link to the Bookseller article for those of you who are interested.

I have two main reactions to this. Firstly, joy:

200-4At the risk of sounding horribly cheesy, it really has been a dream come true to be published this year and I am absolutely thrilled that the dream is going to continue.

Secondly, relief:

200-6You see, for a while now I’ve had ideas for a third book and I was terrified that I wasn’t going to get a chance to tell the whole story. I cannot wait to get started on book three!

Now for a quick round of gratitude before I move on to the second piece of news.

A big thanks to the marvellous Natasha Bardon for continuing to believe in the series and to Juliet Mushens who is, as ever, awesome.

And a vast, galaxy crushing (and possibly slightly awkward) hug of gratitude +5 to all of you who have been so supportive of The Vagrant so far, through buying a copy, talking about it, reviewing it, tweeting it, posting about it and whatever else the cool kids do for books they like nowadays.

Without you, this wouldn’t have happened and I’d be a bitter drunk rather than a happy one.

Good News Part 2

In addition to The Seven, Harper Voyager have also commissioned me to write two short stories set in the world of the Vagrant! Details and release dates to follow but for now here are some potential titles**:

The Dark Goat Rises

Goat Hard
Ancillary Goat
Goat of Thorns
Goats Assemble
The G-Team

UPDATE: People have been adding their own suggestions in the comments. Feel free to add your own. There might be a little prize for the best one…

ANOTHER UPDATE: I'll pick a winner and announce it on the blog on the 21st October. So you have until midnight on the 20th to enter.

Current mood:

200

*If that was confusing the order is:

The Vagrant
The Malice
The Seven

**Actual title and appearance of goats TBC.
